March 6th we had a Segway Tour at the Hidalgo Pump House on the Rio Grande River with the Fig Tree group. The weather was great but unfortunately one of our Fig Tree members had an accident an broke his leg, we wish him the best. Belinda biked both tours, great calorie burners.
Friday, March 7th we enjoyed the Wade Benson Landry's Swingin' Cajun Style Show. We had never heard Cajun music before, very entertaining and full of great jokes. If you are ever in Branson look them up, they do a great show. Saturday night was the annual Birthday Bash with great food and dance music by Larry & Mona with a lot of line dancing. The weather is still a roller coaster from warm to cold with 20 to 50 degree swings every few days. Still waiting for consistent warm weather.
March 20th we did the Border Patrol Tour. This was very interesting and quite the eye opener. They started with an overall presentation on the Border Patrol history and current status. After that we went into the observation room where they monitor the border with a very sophisticated camera system throughout the Rio Grande Valley. At the end of the tour we went into a room where we could view the detainee process. There were about 150 detainees in processing, all from Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. It was a very odd feeling seeing them, they are fed bread and bologna with water, that is it.
Burning of Sugar Cane prior to harvesting. A fine dusting of black ash flows through the area depending on the wind.
Jerry served Ice Cream every Sunday night after the weekly Announcements meeting at Fig Tree.
Our last good day on South Padre Island at Clayton's Beach Bar.
