3/1/13 We had a
wonderful visit with Helen & Jerry.
Helen was the Director that hired Belinda into St. Luke’s 33 years
ago. Time goes by so fast.
3/2/13 Belinda’s sister Mary arrived for a visit
with her son Dale and his wife Danielle.
We all spent the evening with Belinda’s West Virginia cousin Debbie and her husband
Steve. It is amazing that we could all
meet up in Arizona.
3/3/13 We attended the Fiesta Cluster Dog Show at
Westworld. Mary, Dale and Danielle are
huge dog lovers. It was very interesting
learning about the world of Dog Shows and how serious they are. The afternoon was spent hiking McDowell Mountain with a 5 mile hike. The scenery was amazing with all the huge and
various cactus. Danielle and Jerry did
some excellent seafood grilling for dinner.
3/4/13 We spent most
of the day hiking Superstition
Mountain, another great
incline hike. Followed by beers with a
nice view of the mountain we just hiked at an old abandoned mine (tourist)
area. Dale grilled up some awesome
cheeseburgers for dinner.
3/5/13 We spent the
afternoon at the Salt River Field watching the Chicago Cubs and the Colorado
Rockies in a pre season game.
Unfortunately the Cubs lost.
Weather was great and everyone had a nice day at the ballpark.
3/6/13 We spent the day getting ready for our visit
with Jerry’s brother Fred and his wife Nancy.
Went to dinner with Debbie and Steve (Belinda’s cousin and her husband)
at the Fort McDowell Casino for the $9.99 all you can eat Crab Leg Dinner. Needless to say Jerry got his fill of crab
legs.
3/7/13 We took a day trip up to Sedona with Fred
& Nancy. We stopped at Montezuma’s
Castle, cliff dwellings for the Southern Sinagua
farmers back in the 1100’s. It was a 5
story, 20 room dwelling. From there we
drove up through Oak Creek
Canyon, reaching 6,420
feet in elevation with our first sighting of snow on this whole trip. There were a few small piles from a previous
snow on the mountain, not something we wanted to see. On our way back down we stopped at the Slide Rock
State Park and hiked up
the river to some very interesting formations.
We drove up to the Sedona
Airport, best view of all
the surrounding red rock mountains.

3/8/13 We spent the whole day visiting the Scottsdale, AZ MIM – Musical Instrument
Museum. We only planned on a few hours but it was
such an awesome place we were there until they closed. They had musical instruments from all over
the world with videos of the music being played in the instruments native
country. We had dinner at Dale’s
restaurant Z-Tejas and Fred & Nancy
really enjoyed it.
3/9/13 We spent part of the day hiking through the McDowell Mountain Regional
Park which was a 3 mile
hike that had 34 points of interest where we learned all about the desert
plants and wildlife. We later enjoyed
pizza and a refreshment at the Organ Stop restaurant in Mesa, Az, a
pizza place with a huge pipe organ where the organist comes up out of the floor
in the center of the dining area. Great
music with all the instruments being played by one organ player.
3/10/13 We spent the morning at the Scottsdale, AZ
Desert Botanical Garden. They had cacti
from all over the world along with a nice display of local desert plants. We grilled out in the afternoon before taking
Fred & Nancy to the airport.
3/11/13 to 3/16/13 We
spent 5 days straight driving to southern Indiana.
Driving 6-7 hours a day, covering 1,982 miles. We spent 2 nights in Rest Areas, 1 night in
Lowes and 1 night in Wal-Mart. At the second Rest Area we were like a Semi Sandwich, there was only about 2 feet between us and the Semi's on both sides. We have never been that packed in. In route
we enjoyed barbecue at the Interstate BBQ in Memphis, Tn
along the way. Great barbecue filled our
bellies.
We spent the rest of March and part of April in Indiana with a few trips to Michigan for Belinda's work and Mom's medical appts. In mid April we traveled to Turkeyville in Michigan staying there for a week waiting for our driveway to dry out. We finally made it home on April 28th.
