2015 August - our fourth winter journey begins

We started our journey with a stopover at Midway RV in Grand Rapids for 2 nights.  Our windshield had a 1 ½ year old rock chip that progressed to a large crack.  Midway RV did an awesome job replacing the windshield.  Let’s hope for no new rock chips anytime soon!!  We had dinner with Ron & Jan, our Ferris University friends.  It was so great to see them and catch up.

Our next stop was the I-80 Truck Stop in Walcott, Iowa.  It is the largest truck stop in the country.  The store has anything you could ever want for an 18 Wheeler.  Next stop the Walmart in Gretna, Nebraska (just west of Omaha), very quiet parking lot for the night.

We stopped at the Great Platte River Road Archway.  It’s a museum of, and monument to Nebraska's and the Platte River valley's role in westward expansion. The Archway is directly over Interstate 80 three miles east of Kearney, Nebraska.

Our 5th night was at the Sunny Meadows RV Park in Elm Creek, Nebraska to change out fluids (take on water and dump our tanks).  Our good Winter Texan friends, Mike and Nancy only live about 30 minutes from Elm Creek. We had a very nice visit with them for dinner.  We made it to Wiggins, Colorado the next day and spent the night in a rest area about an hour east of Denver.  We went through Denver the next morning (a Saturday) so it wasn’t too bad traffic wise when we hit the Rocky Mountains.

We crossed the highest point along I-70, the Eisenhower Tunnel at 11,155 feet and 1.7 miles long.  The highest grade was just over 7%, Jerry and our Motorhome did an awesome job going up and down the mountains.

Our last night on the road was at Walmart in Rifle, Colorado with the mountains all around us.  .

We arrived at our first destination, Moab, Utah on Sunday morning after a week on the road
